Honeysuckle and Goats
I’ve always loved the smell of honeysuckle. The word goes back to Old English hunigsuge — literally ‘honey-suck’ — a compound that describes exactly what bees (and originally children, apparently) still do: draw nectar from the tubular flowers.
It’s one of those names that’s never really changed. Still sweet. Still summer.
But how do you explain the French and German names chèvre-feuille, Geißblatt?
