‘Umbrella Mouse’ by Anna Fargher

One of my students has been reading ‘The Umbrella Mouse’ at the end of my lessons, and during the week with his mother. He’s really enjoyed the book, and has written this review:

This was a very powerful story that portrayed what went on in the Second World War but through an animal’s eyes.

Pip was the main character who was a mouse but as her adventure went on, she met other characters like Dickens, the rescue Dog and Henri the Stag who was part of the French resistance for animals. If her home in London had not been bombed, she would not have made such great friends on her travels through France to get to Italy where her only remaining family lived. She was only a small mouse but was very brave.

Oscar, age 11, is a big fan of anything to do with World War II, so this is high praise for this imaginative book.
