Shifty McGifty and Slippery Sam are favourites of my 8 year old and I. We realised that we’d not shared it with the 4 year old, so we’ve dug them out of the shelves. These books are a lot of fun, and all three of us enjoyed the book.

Phonics info: my recommendation is that students follow a good quality phonic-based decodeable reading scheme, to phase 5, before tackling this book independently. This is an excellent book for reading aloud, so this could be tackled sooner with the support of a mature reader.

Interest level: 3+ , but it is a book that can be enjoyed by a range of age groups
